ALAN ROSS CAUGHT NEAR HAMILTON AND STEWARTFIELD NURSERY IN EAST KILBRIDE
In a disturbing case that has raised serious concerns among local residents, Alan Ross, a convicted sex offender, was found living just a few yards from a nursery in Stewartfield, East Kilbride.Ross, who has a troubling criminal history involving sexual offenses against minors, was residing on Kelvin Gardens in Hamilton at the time of his recent sentencing.
Ross’s presence in the East Kilbride area came to light after authorities approved his move to a residence where a family member resides.
During his four-week stay in Stewartfield, Ross was under close surveillance by law enforcement agencies as part of the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
This initiative involves cooperation between the police, local authorities, the NHS, the Scottish Prison Service, and other partners, all working to monitor and manage the risks posed by sex offenders in the community.
Despite these precautions, the local community expressed their alarm and concern over Ross’s proximity to a nursery, Oaklands Nursery, which is located just beside the street where he was staying.
Several residents, speaking anonymously, voiced their fears about the potential danger posed by Ross’s presence so close to a place where young children are cared for.
One resident stated, “I find it extremely alarming that a guy like Alan Ross, who has been convicted of sex offences against children, is allowed to stay so close to a nursery.
There are also two primary schools nearby, and I’m sure many parents will be shocked to learn that a convicted paedophile is living so close to their homes.
At least it’s a relief to know he is now behind bars.” Ross’s criminal record includes a conviction for having unlawful sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl in May of the previous year.
He also admitted to downloading indecent images of children, some as young as five, with the images dating from February 2003 to May 2010.
These revelations led to his arrest and subsequent sentencing in Glasgow Sheriff Court.
During the sentencing hearing, Ross was sentenced to a one-year prison term.
The court also imposed a fine of £200 for the possession and distribution of child pornography.
Defence lawyer Gerry Considine explained that Ross was too frightened to return to his home in Hamilton due to fears of vigilante attacks, which underscores the community’s strong feelings of anger and concern.
Strathclyde Police issued a statement emphasizing that sex offenders are subject to strict monitoring under MAPPA, which aims to balance public safety with the rights of offenders.
The police highlighted that all cases are handled with great care, involving psychological assessments, risk evaluations, and careful consideration of residence and security measures.
They assured the public that dedicated officers and partner organizations continually oversee offenders’ compliance and safety measures.
In response to the community’s concerns, police officials reiterated their commitment to public safety and the importance of managing sex offenders appropriately.
They emphasized that while monitoring is rigorous, the management of such cases remains a complex and sensitive task, requiring a careful balance between individual rights and community protection.
