KIERAN GODDARD FROM MITCHAM SENTENCED TO 37 MONTHS FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ASSAULTS AT GUILDFORD CROWN COURT

A man from Mitcham, Kieran Goddard, has been handed a prison sentence of 37 months after pleading guilty to multiple serious charges related to domestic abuse and assaulting emergency workers. The sentencing took place at Guildford Crown Court, where the court was informed of the harrowing events that unfolded in his victim’s home.

Goddard, aged 30 and born on April 14, 1994, was convicted of several offences that occurred on April 12 of the previous year. The incident involved a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who was subjected to a series of aggressive and threatening actions by Goddard within her own residence. According to court reports, Goddard refused to leave the victim’s home despite her pleas, effectively trapping her inside. When she attempted to call emergency services for help, he responded with violence and intimidation.

During the confrontation, Goddard threw a knife near the victim and began stabbing nearby packaging, creating a dangerous and frightening environment. Thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of the victim, she managed to contact 999, prompting police officers to arrive swiftly at the scene. Upon their arrival, officers attempted to arrest Goddard, but he resisted violently, assaulting three police officers in the process. These additional charges of assaulting emergency workers were also considered during his sentencing.

Throughout police interviews, Goddard chose to remain silent, replying with “no comment” to all questions posed to him. The victim, in a powerful statement read aloud in court, expressed her motivation for pursuing justice. She stated, “I felt compelled to pursue this investigation for every woman who Kieran has harmed in the past that was too scared to support an investigation, and every woman who Kieran may meet in the future to try and help to safeguard them.”

PC Nina Bakker, a member of the Domestic Abuse Team involved in the case, praised the victim’s bravery and emphasized the importance of reporting abuse. She said, “Firstly I would like to say thank you to the victim-survivor, whose support and bravery has meant that we were able to bring Kieran Goddard to face justice. He will now spend the next few years in prison where he belongs. You should feel safest in your own home, however domestic abusers like Goddard can make your home feel like the most unsafe and frightening place to be. Domestic abuse can affect anyone and if you are suffering from physical, psychological, sexual or financial abuse, or are being threatened, intimidated or stalked by someone close to you, please report it to us. We will take it seriously, we will listen and you are not alone.”
