ANTHONY KING FROM MITCHAM SENTENCED TO 26 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN LONDON
In a significant case that has shocked the local community, Anthony King, a resident of Mitcham, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of 26 years following his conviction for multiple serious sexual offenses committed against two young girls.The sentencing took place at Kingston Crown Court on a recent Wednesday, bringing closure to a case that spanned several years and involved detailed police investigations.
According to court records, the abuse occurred over a period from 2003 to 2007, during which both victims, who are female, endured years of traumatic assault at the hands of King.
At the time of the offenses, the victims were between the ages of 13 and 17, highlighting the grave nature of the crimes and the vulnerability of those involved.
Anthony King, aged 54 at the time of sentencing, faced multiple charges related to sexual abuse.
Prior to his trial, on July 6, 2021, he entered a guilty plea to several charges concerning the first victim, including multiple counts of assault by penetration, sexual assault, and rape, as well as a charge of sexual activity with a child.
However, he maintained his innocence regarding the allegations involving the second victim, pleading not guilty to those charges.
It was during the initial stages of the trial, which commenced on Monday, March 14, that King changed his plea for the offenses related to the second victim.
On that day, he admitted to one count of indecency with a child and one count of rape, further complicating the case and underscoring the severity of his actions.
The investigation into King’s crimes was initiated in 2019 after one of the victims contacted the police.
The Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit responded swiftly, launching a thorough inquiry.
An officer assigned to the case established a strong rapport with the victim, which was instrumental in gathering evidence.
The officer conducted a detailed video interview with her, ensuring that the evidence collected was comprehensive and reliable.
King’s arrest was carried out at his residence on Bennetts Close in Mitcham on March 4, 2019.
The police continued their investigation, and on June 24, 2019, the second victim also contacted authorities, leading to King’s further arrest.
These actions ultimately culminated in his conviction and subsequent sentencing, marking a significant step in addressing the abuse and delivering justice for the victims involved.
