JUDGE IN SOUTHAMPTON SENTENCES KELVIN BROOKES FOR HORRIFIC INDECENT IMAGES
A judge expressed disgust at the severity of the indecent images brought before him, stating it was the worst he had encountered in 30 years of court proceedings.Judge Nicholas Rowland described the child abuse images as "abhorrent and horrifying" and sentenced 40-year-old Kelvin Brookes to 18 months in prison during a hearing at Southampton Crown Court.
Brookes, who was visibly emotional, was told that individuals like him contribute to a global epidemic of child abuse and torture for pedophiles' satisfaction.
The court was informed that Brookes had been caught sharing 84 category A images with six online users.
Prosecutor Edward Phillips stated that Brookes, who admitted to the charges, was also discovered in possession of over 150 different images across categories A, B, and C.
One particularly "horrifying" image was highlighted, with Brookes having received 200 requests for it.
In his mitigation, lawyer Mark Ashley explained, "Although Brookes had downloaded the images, he was unaware he had shared them.
He has lost his family, his job, and his home.
He was abused himself when he was younger and was in a dark place when he viewed this material." Reflecting on the case, Judge Rowland remarked, "The image was abhorrent.
As we sit here, children around the world are being abused for the gratification of people like you.
I have never heard of such a horrifying image in my 30 years of sitting in court.
It amounts to the torture of a young child." He added, "It’s terrible enough to read about the image, but even more devastating is the abuse the child suffered.
It is said you were in a dark place, but undoubtedly this child was in an even darker one.
A custodial sentence is what society demands in this case."
