JUSTIN GREVATT SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN DARLINGTON AND EDINBURGH

A man identified as Justin Grevatt, aged 38, has been sentenced to 20 months in prison following a disturbing sexual assault incident that took place in Darlington. The court proceedings revealed that Grevatt had inappropriately touched a teenage girl, first groping her breast and subsequently placing his hand between her legs, an act that has left lasting trauma on the young victim.

According to the prosecution, led by Shaun Dodds, the assault had a profound psychological impact on the girl, who is now so traumatized that she refuses to leave her house or even be in the company of other men. The court heard that the girl’s mother returned home to find her in a hysterical state, overwhelmed by the distress caused by the assault. It was only then that the girl confided in her mother about what had happened during her absence. Her mother immediately demanded that Grevatt leave the premises, which he did without resistance.

In a heartfelt victim impact statement, the girl’s mother described the lasting effects of the assault, stating, “This was a nightmare that will never leave her. She has become more dependent on me and her family, not wanting to leave the house on her own or be around any other men because she doesn’t feel safe. You have taken away her youth and innocence which she will never get back.” The emotional toll was so severe that the family felt compelled to relocate from their home, unable to endure the ongoing horror of living in the same environment.

The court also considered Grevatt’s criminal history, which includes a similar offence committed over ten years ago. Grevatt, who resides at Kingsknowe Court in Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to a single charge of sexual assault on a child. His defense attorney, Anthony Davis, acknowledged that Grevatt had accepted responsibility but struggled to explain his actions, describing them as a “momentary aberration.” Davis also noted that his client has been battling mental health issues in recent years.

Judge Jo Kidd delivered the sentence, emphasizing the gravity of the offense. She stated, “Without any warning you touched the girl.” Grevatt was sentenced to 20 months in custody and was also subjected to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the same period and was placed under an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim from further contact.

This case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding sexual offenses and the importance of justice for victims, especially minors, in both Darlington and Edinburgh.
