JOZEF JANCZURA SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN SOUTHAMPTON FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT
Jozef Janczura, a 34-year-old resident of Laburnum Road, Southampton, was sentenced on January 31 to a 20-year extended prison term for the rape and assault of an 18-year-old woman in Riverside Park, Southampton, on December 2, 2018.
After more than a year of investigation, a jury at Southampton Crown Court returned a unanimous guilty verdict on both charges on December 11, 2019.
During today’s sentencing hearing, the judge imposed the extended sentence, reflecting the severity of the attack.
The assault occurred when the victim was walking along Woodmill Lane.
She reported that a man she did not know grabbed her by the neck and raped her in a wooded area of Riverside Park, situated between the skate park and tennis courts.
Following the incident, police launched an immediate appeal for witnesses, including seeking CCTV footage from nearby residences and dash cam recordings.
The victim received support from specialist officers, and forensic evidence collected was analyzed through a fast-track process.
On December 7, investigators learned that the DNA evidence obtained did not match any profiles in the national police database.
As a result, a comprehensive CCTV investigation was devised in collaboration with the National Crime Agency to help identify the perpetrator.
