NORWICH MAN JOSHUA KING CAUGHT BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS IN NORWICH

In June 2018, a serious incident unfolded in Norwich involving a man named Joshua King, aged 26, who was ultimately caught by a group of paedophile hunters operating in the area.

The hunters had set up an online sting, posing as a 14-year-old girl named Lulu in a chatroom, aiming to identify and confront individuals attempting to engage in illegal activities with minors.

Over the course of more than a week, Joshua King engaged in conversations with the fake profile, sending a series of messages that grew increasingly explicit and suggestive.

The Norwich Crown Court heard that King’s communications included requests for the girl to call him “daddy” and invitations for a sleepover, with the messages escalating to more graphic content as the conversation progressed.

When the girl, posing as Lulu, ceased responding due to the explicit nature of the messages, King responded with hostility and abusive language, revealing his intent and mindset during the exchange.

The paedophile hunters, known as Wolf Pack Hunters UK, had been monitoring the online interactions.

A woman working with the group for approximately a month played a key role in the operation.

On November 7, the group received a message from someone calling himself Josh K on a website, where he identified himself as Lulu’s chat partner.

The woman responded, clarifying Lulu’s age as 14, and the group then obtained King’s phone number through WhatsApp, continuing the conversation to gather evidence.

By November 14, the group had accumulated enough information to believe King was a threat.

They coordinated with law enforcement and, on November 18, waited outside an address in Norwich where they suspected King would be.

When he arrived, they confronted him directly, and police were subsequently provided with material collected during the operation.

The evidence included explicit messages and other communications that demonstrated King’s intentions.

During the court proceedings, Richard Potts, prosecuting, detailed the nature of the messages, including King’s requests for the girl to call him “daddy” and his repeated attempts to obtain her phone number.

The messages became increasingly graphic, prompting the group to cease contact.

The prosecution highlighted that the group’s efforts were part of a broader initiative to prevent potential harm to minors.

In mitigation, Andrew Oliver argued that King’s actions stemmed from issues related to low self-esteem, social isolation, and a lack of maturity.

He expressed that King was genuinely remorseful and disgusted with his conduct, which he described as a reflection of his personal struggles rather than predatory intent.

Judge Andrew Shaw addressed the court, stating that King did not exhibit the typical characteristics of a predatory paedophile but acknowledged his lack of maturity for his age.

As a result, King was sentenced to a 12-month prison term, suspended for two years.

Additionally, he was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities, and attend a 35-day sexual offending programme.

A sexual harm prevention order was imposed for ten years, and King was required to forfeit any electronic devices used during the offence, aiming to prevent future incidents and protect the community.
