JORDAN YARDLEY LIVINGSTON SEX OFFENDER CAUGHT GROOMING 12-YEAR-OLD ON SOCIAL MEDIA

In March 2019, a disturbing case involving Jordan Yardley, a resident of Livingston in West Lothian, came to light as he was sentenced for serious sexual offenses against minors. Yardley, aged 22 at the time, was found guilty of grooming a person he believed to be a 12-year-old girl through social media platforms. His actions revealed a troubling pattern of predatory behavior, compounded by his prior convictions and current status as a registered sex offender.

Yardley's criminal history includes a previous conviction from 2016 for possessing indecent images of children being sexually abused. Despite this, he continued to engage in illegal activities, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of minors. During the latest incident, Yardley was actively communicating with a decoy, who was part of a vigilante group known as “Wolf Pack Hunters,” designed to catch online predators. The decoy, posing as a 12-year-old girl, engaged Yardley in online conversations, during which he expressed no concern about her age.

He sent indecent messages and made explicit offers, including plans to meet in the woods to teach her how to kiss and discuss sex when she turned 13. Yardley provided his mobile number and falsely claimed to be 20 years old, despite being 22. He repeatedly asked her to send nude photographs, but the decoy explained that her phone's camera was broken by her little brother, which Yardley accepted without suspicion. His intentions to meet her for sexual activity were thwarted when members of the vigilante group confronted him and streamed the encounter live on the internet.

During police interviews and on-camera questioning, Yardley openly admitted that being a paedophile “didn’t bother him,” a statement that underscored his lack of remorse and insight into the gravity of his actions. His indifference was further highlighted when he was asked why he did not feel remorse about his behavior, to which he shook his head and replied, “No. That doesn’t bother me.”

Yardley's case was heard at Livingston Sheriff Court, where the judge, Sheriff Peter Hammond, expressed serious concern over Yardley's escalating sexual interests and his persistent pattern of offending. The court was informed that Yardley’s previous conviction involved the possession of indecent images, and he was already on the sex offenders’ register at the time of the latest offenses. The judge emphasized the importance of protecting the public, especially vulnerable young people, from individuals like Yardley who pose a significant risk.

In his sentencing remarks, Sheriff Hammond highlighted Yardley's apparent lack of remorse and the absence of insight into the harm caused by his actions. He stated, “The factor not in dispute is that you do have a sexual interest in children which is persistent and appears to be escalating. The court’s primary concern is to safeguard the public and deter others from similar behavior. It is evident that you do not seem to appreciate the seriousness of your offending or its impact on potential victims.” Consequently, the court sentenced Yardley to an extended prison term of 39 months, which includes 27 months of custody followed by 12 months of supervised release. Additionally, Yardley's name will remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, and he faces the possibility of re-imprisonment if he breaches any supervision conditions.

Furthermore, in December 2018, Yardley had already been remanded in custody after pleading guilty to sending indecent messages to a child, which he believed to be a 12-year-old girl. During that incident, he expressed no remorse when confronted by paedophile hunters, asserting that he did not care about his status as a sex offender or the potential consequences. His online conversations revealed a desire to keep his activities secret, asking the decoy not to tell her friends or family about their interactions. Yardley’s actions demonstrated a clear pattern of grooming and predatory behavior, which the court recognized as highly concerning.

Given his ongoing violations and the serious nature of his offenses, Yardley's bail was revoked, and he was remanded into custody until December 24 for further assessments. The court underscored the importance of monitoring individuals like Yardley to prevent further harm and to ensure public safety, especially considering his history and the risks associated with his behavior.
