August 2009 Bus driver abused primary pupil A former minibus driver has been jailed for grooming a schoolgirl for sex, then raping her. David Swan, 43, began abusing the child in 2003 when she was aged just 10. The attacks continued for two years. At the High Court in Edinburgh, he also admitted possessing 1,250 indecent images of children. Swan, of Huntly, Aberdeenshire, was given a lifelong restriction order and told he would serve at least eight years in jail. The court heard he first met the child after picking her and her mother up at a bus stop en route to a West Lothian primary school. After befriending the pair, Swan later gave the girl alcohol and showed her pornographic films. The court heard that he told the child that he “couldn’t wait until she was 16 and could have his babies and marry him”. After the abuse came to light, police searched a house in Forres, in Moray, where Swan was then living, and found a cache of sexual images of children on a computer. In sentencing, Lord Menzies told him that he was satisfied the risk standards had been met for imposing an Order for Lifelong Restriction, meaning he will be closely monitored for his whole life. He said: “It may mean you will remain in custody for the rest of your life.” The judge added that “a significant proportion” of the downloaded child pornography images found were “at the worst end of the scale”. He said: “There are numerous victims of these offences, namely the young children who were the subject of the photos.” Swan, formerly of Nelson Place, Huntly, earlier admitted raping the girl at houses in Livingston and Armadale, in West Lothian, and at a caravan park in Ullapool and possessing child pornography.
