JORDAN RICHARDSON'S BRUTAL ATTACK ON XL BULLY IN HAMILTON LEADS TO 15-MONTH JAIL SENTENCE

In a disturbing incident that has shocked the community of Hamilton, Jordan Richardson, also known as Jordan McClung and born around 1997, was convicted in 2024 for a violent assault on an innocent dog. The incident unfolded in March 2024, following a heated argument with his then-girlfriend, which ultimately culminated in a brutal attack on an XL Bully dog.

Richardson, a known offender with a criminal record that includes charges of assault by threats, robbery, and assault causing injury and danger to life, was found to have targeted the dog during a moment of heightened agitation. At the time, he was a prisoner at HMP Addiewell in West Lothian, but the events leading to his conviction took place in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

The court heard that Richardson’s troubles began after his girlfriend asked him to leave her residence, indicating that she no longer wished to continue their relationship. According to Depute Fiscal Aga Mathieson, the woman informed Richardson that she did not want to maintain their relationship and asked him to vacate her home. Despite this, Richardson left but returned within approximately fifteen minutes, claiming that he had been assaulted by someone else. His girlfriend, concerned and perhaps feeling pressured, allowed him back into the property.

Once inside, Richardson’s behavior grew increasingly erratic. He entered the kitchen and seized a large black-handled knife, shouting and swearing loudly. The situation escalated further when he proceeded to a nearby address where an XL Bully dog was present, running freely within the premises. Witnesses described Richardson acting in a threatening manner, swinging the knife towards the dog in a menacing fashion.

Without warning, Richardson stabbed the dog twice, targeting its side with the blade. Throughout the attack, he continued to shout and curse, displaying a clear intent to harm. The injured dog was subsequently taken to a veterinary clinic, where it received nine stitches and was kept overnight for observation. Fortunately, the animal survived the attack without long-term consequences, but the incident left a lasting impact on those involved.

During the court proceedings, Richardson’s defense lawyer, Patrick Brechany, acknowledged the seriousness of the offense. He stated, “He understands the seriousness of this matter and that there is no alternative to custody. He felt intimidated and felt threatened by the dog and reacted in the way described but thankfully there were no further long-term repercussions for the animal.”

However, the presiding sheriff, Linda Nicolson, emphasized the gravity of Richardson’s actions and his criminal history. She remarked, “Given the nature of the offences and your previous convictions, I have concluded that a custodial sentence is appropriate in this case.” As a result, Richardson was sentenced to 15 months in prison. The court did not specify whether Richardson would face restrictions on keeping animals in the future, but the sentence reflects the severity with which the justice system viewed his conduct in this incident.
