JORDAN BIBBY SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC CRIMES IN MONMOUTHSHIRE

A man named Jordan Bibby, residing in Penda Close, Sedbury, near Chepstow, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison following a series of harrowing and violent crimes committed against a woman in her own home in Monmouthshire.

Bibby, aged 22, was found guilty by a jury composed of eight men and four women at Gloucester Crown Court on October 1st of a brutal rape, among other offenses, stemming from an incident that occurred on February 11th, 2018.

The court heard sordid details of the incident, during which Bibby exerted control and inflicted physical and emotional trauma on his victim.

Judge Ian Lawrie QC delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing that Bibby’s actions were motivated by a desire to dominate and intimidate.

The judge highlighted that Bibby’s conduct left enduring scars on the woman, stating, “You controlled your victim through fear.

The rape has had a significant impact on her life, the effects of which will be long-lasting.

She has been left with emotional scars which the passage of time will not diminish.” Prosecutor Charles Thomas outlined the events leading up to Bibby’s conviction.

The victim, then 20 years old, was driving home when she encountered Bibby, whom she knew, standing at a roundabout in Chepstow just before 2 a.m.

She decided to stop and speak to him.

Bibby demanded that she take him to Newport.

When she refused and offered to take him back to Sedbury instead, Bibby’s behavior grew aggressive.

He insisted she continue driving to his home and became confrontational, breaking the indicator stick on the woman’s vehicle during an argument.

Once they reached her residence, Bibby violently pushed her against a wall, causing her to fall, and stole her car keys.

He drove off in her vehicle for a short period before returning.

The victim recounted how Bibby then grabbed her by the hair and dragged her to her flat on the building’s top floor.

His anger escalated as he began physically assaulting her, punching her in the waist and lower body with her own hairbrush, and repeatedly striking her on her hand.

The assault grew even more severe when Bibby used her heated hair straighteners as a weapon, clamping them around her ankle.

The skin immediately burnt upon contact, and despite her screams and pleas for him to stop, Bibby tightened his grip.

After this act of violence, he forced her to stand completely naked in front of her bedroom window for an extended period, leaving her feeling extremely vulnerable.

He then ordered her to stand in the corner of her flat, threatening her whenever she attempted to move.

The victim pleaded to use the toilet, but Bibby refused until a prolonged period had passed.

Eventually, he released her, and when she returned to her bedroom, he instructed her to get into bed and perform sexual acts, which she refused.

She explicitly told him ‘no’.

At that moment, Bibby tried to rape her, but the assault lasted only about 20 seconds before he was unable to maintain an erection and ceased his efforts.

The following morning, the victim found Bibby still in her flat, acting as if nothing had happened.

She later contacted the police in Chepstow to report the incident, but was initially advised to report it to Gloucestershire Police.

Although she delayed reporting for three months, during that time she confided in trusted colleagues, describing the event as her “worst birthday ever.” Defence counsel Lloyd Jenkins acknowledged Bibby’s aggressive behavior, including the theft of the car, hair pulling, and physical assault into the flat, but denied that Bibby forced her to stand naked at the window or that the rape occurred.

Jenkins argued that there was no sexual intercourse and, therefore, no rape, asserting that the 20-second claim was not true and that the alleged act never took place.

Throughout the trial, the jury was encouraged to carefully consider whether Bibby’s guilt was proven beyond reasonable doubt, with the defence suggesting that doubts should benefit the accused.

The court also learned that Bibby had been dealing with personal tragedies, including the suicide of his mother and the death of a 17-year-old nephew in a car accident, which may have impacted his behavior.

Addressing Bibby directly, Judge Ian Lawrie QC condemned his actions as “one of the most serious offences,” noting the lack of remorse and the abusive nature of his conduct.

The judge praised the victim’s resilience in recounting her ordeal and emphasized the long-lasting damage inflicted upon her.

He stated that her statement described how the rape and associated violence had profoundly affected her life, leaving emotional scars that would endure.

The court issued a comprehensive order, including a requirement for Bibby to register as a sex offender for life, and to be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order preventing any contact with his victim.

Additionally, Bibby was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £170.

In a statement following the case, Detective Superintendent Steve Bean of Gloucestershire Police expressed admiration for the victim’s bravery, noting her strength and resilience in the aftermath of her trauma.

He urged anyone suffering from similar abuse to come forward, assuring that all reports would be treated seriously and confidentially, with support available through specialized agencies.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Heidi Price highlighted the gravity of Bibby’s offences, emphasizing the devastating and lifelong impact on victims.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the criminal justice system to protect survivors and bring offenders like Bibby to justice, reinforcing that this sentence reflected the seriousness of what had been committed against the vulnerable woman in Monmouthshire.
