JORDAN BIBBY SENTENCED AT SOUTHAMPTON CROWN COURT FOR CHILD GROOMING OFFENCES

Jordan Bibby, aged 19, believed he was communicating with underage girls online but was actually speaking to adults posing as children in an effort to catch offenders.

Yesterday, he was sentenced to detention in a Young Offender Institution, with a judge at Southampton Crown Court condemning his behavior as 'revolting.' Prosecutor Dawn Hyland explained that Bibby was arrested after engaging with fake profiles created by the Child Online Safety Team and a group called Innocent Voices.

Thinking he was conversing with an 11-year-old girl, Bibby reportedly said, 'I want you babe.

I want to be your boyfriend.' Hyland further stated that Bibby also sent explicit photographs of himself and asked for sex.

Although he was initially charged and released on bail, Bibby committed further offences online by chatting again with someone he believed to be a 12-year-old girl.

During one of several video calls, he performed a sexual act, the court was told.

Bibby pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to sexually communicate with a child, attempting to cause a child to watch a sex act, and attempting to meet a child after grooming her.

His address was listed as the McMullen Barracks at Marchwood.

Defence lawyer Robin Griffiths stated that Bibby had lost his career in the army due to these offences committed in the early months of the previous year.

He explained that "the terrible misfortunes" Bibby endured in his childhood had led to a life of significant isolation.

Griffiths added, "After being recruited into the army he found what felt like a family life for the first time." Judge Peter Henry addressed Bibby directly, saying, "Having been arrested you went on to commit a number of other offences.

If it were not for your immaturity and learning difficulties, you would have received a longer prison sentence."
