SOUTHAMPTON MAN JAILED FOR OBSESSIVE STALKING AND FILMING WOMEN
June 2023: A 26-year-old man from Southampton, identified as Johnson Kaboi Kubelabo and residing in Brunswick Place, has been sentenced to two years behind bars for his stalking activities, with authorities cautioning that more victims may still be unaired.Southampton Crown Court highlighted that Kubelabo’s acts constituted organized and persistent stalking.
The incidents occurred earlier this year within Southampton city.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary reported that the suspect initially targeted a woman by following her during her daily commute to her workplace.
It was revealed in court that his obsessive conduct persisted over several weeks, with the victim growing increasingly uneasy about being watched.
Evidence pointed to Kubelabo secretly filming her using his mobile phone.
The woman recounted noticing him behind her while she examined shop windows, which caused her significant distress and fear.
Her anxiousness grew when he trailed her to her home one evening, entered the communal area, and falsely claimed he was searching for a friend’s address.
She described feeling "really scared," and recounted hiding in her bathroom while alerting her housemate and partner about her distress.
She expressed her hope that she might someday regain the sense of safety and freedom she once had.
Kubelabo admitted to committing stalking offences that caused serious alarm and distress.
During sentencing, the court considered four additional stalking charges without violence, which showed his repeated targeting of other women in Southampton.
He was sentenced to two years in prison and was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years, along with a restraining order to prevent any contact with his victims.
Detective Constable Alex Griffey underlined the serious threat posed by stalking, commending the victim’s courage in reporting the crime.
He also encouraged the public to report any suspicions of similar conduct, as authorities remain vigilant about the possibility of further victims being targeted in Southampton.
