A man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison after being found guilty of abusing a young girl nearly two decades ago in Waterlooville.
John Robert West, 42, from Shetland Court in Worthing, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday, December 12, where a jury convicted him of child sex offences.
The victim came forward in 2019 to report that she was assaulted by West in 2005, at the age of 13.
Although she initially reported the incident that year, she later withdrew her statement due to concerns about facing court.
An investigation was initiated after the 2019 report.
West was interviewed and charged with one count of sexual activity with a minor and another of inciting a minor to engage in sexual acts.
Despite pleading not guilty, the jury found West guilty in August.
During sentencing, His Honour Judge Shepherd highlighted that West had shown no remorse or regret for his conduct and had not apologized to his victim.
