John Olver

Saltash Sexual Abuser

July 2015 A PERVERT indecently exposed himself to the same schoolgirl three times in just over a year, a court heard. Serial offender John Olver, aged 58, pulled up alongside a string of youngsters in a car and performed an indecent act. He was eventually tracked down by police and the parents of one of the girls, Plymouth Crown Court heard. Olver avoided an immediate jail term despite having a history of sexual offences Recorder Nicholas Hall said he was worried about the defendant attacking someone – but argued that sexual offender treatment and a suspended sentence would better tackle his behaviour. Olver, of Alamein Road, Saltash, pleaded guilty to three offences of indecent exposure and one of public order between April last year and June this year. He asked for another offence of indecent exposure to be taken into consideration. Julia Cox, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Olver would target girls aged between 10 and 13, either on their own or in pairs.  She added he would pull up alongside them in a car and draw their attention to himself as he performed an indecent act, twice in Oregon Way, Efford; also in Chaucer Way, Manadon; and Looseleigh Lane, Derriford. Miss Cox said he exposed himself to the same girl, aged 11 and 12, three times over a year. The court heard that on the last occasion he exposed himself to two girls, including his regular victim. One quickly told her parents who found Culver’s car nearby. Police were called and tracked the car to his home in Saltash. Miss Cox said the last two victims were “distraught”. The court heard Olver had been given a previous suspended sentence for an earlier offence of exposure. Addressing Olver’s barrister, Recorder Hall said: “The argument you would put forward is that an immediate prison sentence would achieve nothing, there would be no formal treatment.” He handed the defendant prison sentences adding up to eight months, but suspended them for two years. Olver must do the Thames Valley sex offender programme and a separate probation course to tackle offending. He should pay £180 criminal courts charge and £100 victim surcharge. July 2015 Saltash man to be sentence later this month after admitting indecent exposure to young girls A MAN who has admitted to indecently exposing himself to young girls from his car will be sentenced later this month. John Leslie Olver of Alamein Road, Saltash appeared at Plymouth Magistrates Court on June 18 where he pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent exposure. Oliver was arrested on June 16 on suspicion of exposure and charged with four offences at different locations around Plymouth which are understood to have taken place over the previous 12 months. He has been remanded into custody and will next appear at Plymouth Magistrates Court on July 17.
