JOHN LOCKE, THE NOTORIOUS PAEDOPHILE FROM HARTLEPOOL AND MIDDLESBROUGH, DIES IN PRISON
In a tragic end to a notorious criminal's life, John Locke, a convicted sex offender with a long history of disturbing behavior, passed away while incarcerated.Locke, aged 70, was once so feared in the North-East region that he was explicitly banned from entering the town of Hartlepool due to his inappropriate conduct and the threat he posed to children.
His criminal record includes a conviction in 2004 for indecently assaulting a 14-year-old boy, which led to his imprisonment.
Following his release in 2007, authorities imposed a ban preventing him from entering Hartlepool for a period of two years, citing concerns over his potential danger to minors.
This restriction was enacted because Locke failed to inform officials of his change of residence, raising further alarms about his transparency and risk.
Despite the ban, Locke's problematic behavior persisted.
In 2010, he was subjected to a Sexual Offender Prevention Order (Sopo), a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and monitor his conduct.
However, Locke repeatedly violated the terms of this order, breaching it at least ten times.
Among these breaches were incidents in Thornton Street, Hartlepool, where he engaged in conversations with children aged between ten and thirteen, attempting to lure them into his home in 2011.
During the inquest held at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, it was revealed that Locke’s family disowned him; his brother refused to acknowledge him as next of kin.
Eventually, a nephew residing in New York was identified and agreed to receive information regarding Locke’s death for administrative purposes.
The court also noted that Locke, who habitually wore an eye patch over his right eye, had been released from prison on December 16 but returned to custody by December 23, indicating ongoing issues with his reintegration into society.
Locke’s final days were marked by his residence on Marton Road, Middlesbrough.
It was confirmed by the Teesside Crown Court that he died of a heart attack at Holme House Prison, located near Stockton, on January 6 of this year.
The acting coroner, Malcolm Donnelly, concluded that Locke’s death was due to natural causes, bringing an end to a life marred by criminality and controversy in the North-East region.
