JOHN GODDARD FROM SUTTON AND NOTTINGHAMSHIRE SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF TEENAGE GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Sutton and the wider Nottinghamshire area, John Goddard, a man in his 60s, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for the heinous crime of raping a young girl. The incident, which took place in June of the previous year, led to a lengthy investigation that culminated in his conviction and subsequent imprisonment.

John Goddard, who was formerly residing on Clare Road in Sutton, pleaded guilty to the serious charge of raping a girl aged between 13 and 15. His admission of guilt was made prior to the sentencing, which occurred at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, December 3rd. The court handed down a sentence of ten years in prison, a punishment that reflects the gravity of his actions. Additionally, Goddard will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, a measure designed to protect the community from potential future harm.

The court proceedings revealed that following the incident on June 11th, Goddard fled Nottinghamshire in an attempt to evade justice. Law enforcement officials quickly initiated an investigation, which included circulating his details among police forces in neighboring Leicestershire. The breakthrough came in May when a police community support officer (PCSO) recognized Goddard in Leicestershire. Despite his efforts to conceal his identity by providing false details, the deception was unsuccessful. He was promptly arrested and transported back to Nottinghamshire for questioning.

Detective Constable Rhona Keenan, a member of the child abuse investigation team, commented on the case, emphasizing the offender’s awareness of the severity of his actions. She stated, “John Goddard was fully aware of the seriousness of his actions and spent the following year avoiding the consequences. His victim, however, had no such option. She did not hide. She spoke out, showing a greater maturity than her attacker and an incredible bravery and determination to secure a conviction against this man to ensure he can no longer manipulate or hurt anyone else.”

If anyone suspects that a child is being abused or if an individual is a victim of sexual assault, authorities urge the public to act. In emergencies, call 999.
