JOHN LAW FROM TOOTHILL SENTENCED AFTER ILLEGAL SEX WITH 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN SWINDON AND NORTH OXFORDSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the local communities, a man from Toothill, Swindon, has been sentenced to prison after admitting to engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor. The incident took place in July of the previous year and involved a 15-year-old girl who was sitting on a wall outside her school in North Oxfordshire.According to court proceedings, John Law, aged 34 and residing on Deerhurst Way in Toothill, was observed by witnesses pulling up in a van outside a pub in Swindon. The girl, who was sitting nearby, approached the vehicle after Law appeared to ask her for directions. Prosecutor Rachel Drake explained that Law then offered her a chance to win ten pounds, prompting her to go over to his vehicle.
During the court hearing, Ms. Drake detailed how Law told the girl he was experiencing relationship problems with his girlfriend. The two then shared a cannabis joint, which Law claimed was part of their interaction. Subsequently, Law drove behind the pub, where the unlawful act took place. The girl, feeling increasingly uncomfortable, told Law she needed to return to school. However, Law allegedly grabbed her wrist and told her to wait, which led to the sexual encounter.
The girl managed to escape and returned to her school, where she confided in a teacher about what had happened. Law was arrested the following day. During police interviews, Law claimed that the girl had told him she was over 16, a statement that was contradicted by the evidence and her own account.
Law’s defense attorney, Nick Devine, argued that his client’s behavior was completely out of character. Nonetheless, the court found sufficient evidence to convict Law of the charges. Judge Paul Clark sentenced him to 12 months in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and the need for community protection.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of minors and the importance of vigilance in protecting young people from predatory behavior in local communities like Toothill and Swindon.
