STEVENSTON MAN ASSAULTED CHILD AT SALTCOATS SCHOOL
A man from Stevenston has been found guilty of physically assaulting a young girl at a primary school.
John McClumpha was accused of hitting the girl on the backside with his hand during an incident that took place approximately a year ago at a school located in Saltcoats.
Initially, McClumpha, aged 67 and residing on Diddup Drive in Stevenston, faced charges of sexual assault.
However, following a trial at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on March 27, the presiding sheriff, David Hall, convicted him solely of a common law assault.
The assault on the girl, who was under 13 years old, occurred on March 28, 2025.
The name of the school involved has not been disclosed to safeguard the victim's identity.
Sentencing was postponed to allow for the preparation of reports, with a new date set for April 28.
McClumpha remains out on bail pending further proceedings.
