July 2006 Three years of pervert’s abuse A SEX attacker who told an eight-year-old girl she would get in “trouble” if she told her parents she was being abused has been jailed for four years. John Campbell, 44, scared the schoolgirl into keeping quiet about the repeated assaults she suffered at his hands. But Newcastle Crown Court heard how the brave youngster finally broke down and confessed to her mum what had been happening. And when the police were informed, Campbell admitted he had been targeting the girl. Campbell, of Fulwell Road, Sunderland, admitted one charge of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and four charges of sexual assault on a child. Judge Esmond Faulks yesterday jailed Campbell for four years, banned him from working with children for life and ordered him to register as a sex offender for life.
