JEREMY BROWN'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN NORWICH: PREDATORY PAEDOPHILE ADMITTED TO MULTIPLE SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON GIRLS AS YOUNG AS EIGHT
In a disturbing series of events that have shocked the Norwich community, Jeremy Brown, a 59-year-old man with a troubling criminal history, has admitted to committing a string of sexual assaults against young girls. The allegations span several years, with the earliest incidents reportedly occurring between 2006 and 2009, and involve heinous acts committed against girls as young as eight years old.
Brown, who resides on Anchor Street in Norwich, appeared before Norwich Crown Court on Monday, June 13, to face charges related to these serious offences.
During the hearing, he pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual assault, which involved assaulting girls aged eight, nine, and eleven.
The court was informed that Brown's actions included touching the victims through their clothing and, in some cases, pulling their trousers aside to examine their genitals.
These acts of abuse were described as predatory and calculated, highlighting a pattern of grooming and exploitation.
Prosecutor Lori Tucker explained that the court would need to consult with the police and the families of the victims to determine whether the reduced number of guilty pleas was acceptable, indicating that additional charges or details might be under consideration.
The judge, Alice Robinson, decided to adjourn the case until July 11 to allow for a pre-sentence report, which will assess the level of danger Brown poses to the public and inform sentencing decisions.
Brown's criminal record is extensive and includes a previous conviction in 2020, where he was deemed to pose a 'high risk of harm.' In that case, he received an extended sentence of six years and three months after grooming a 10-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her in 2012.
The court heard that Brown had a history of manipulating and exploiting children, which added to the severity of his current charges.
Further back, in January 2020, Brown was involved in grooming a young girl by showering her with expensive gifts and treats before sexually assaulting her.
The court was told that Brown, then 58, also sent the girl, who was approximately 10 years old at the time, intimate messages via her phone.
He threatened her with legal trouble if she reported his actions.
The victim later came forward at age 16, raising concerns about Brown's behavior, which she had not previously disclosed, unaware that he was a registered sex offender.
Brown admitted to sexually assaulting a girl under 13, and his criminal history includes a 1999 conviction for sex offences against children, where he acted as a babysitter.
Additionally, in 2016, he was convicted of downloading indecent images of children.
During sentencing, Judge Andrew Shaw described Brown as a manipulative and predatory paedophile who engaged in calculated grooming.
The judge emphasized that Brown's pattern of offending demonstrated a significant lack of control, despite his efforts to restrict his access to the internet by not owning a phone or computer.
As part of his punishment, Brown was sentenced to serve 15 months in custody, followed by an extended license period of five years.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, which monitors his internet usage.
Judge Shaw expressed his primary concern for public safety, underscoring the importance of protecting vulnerable children from individuals like Brown.
The case remains ongoing, with further sentencing details to be determined after the pre-sentence report is completed.
