JEFFREY BOUQUET AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN SOUTHAMPTON

A man from Southampton who was found in possession of over 200,000 indecent images of children is now serving time in prison.

Jeffrey Bouquet, aged 48, had previously been given a suspended prison sentence after authorities raided his home and discovered the extensive collection of illicit photographs.

Despite this prior conviction, just four months later, Bouquet contacted his offender manager claiming that he had unintentionally clicked on a link leading him to a prohibited website.

This incident prompted further investigation, which ultimately confirmed that Bouquet had re-engaged in accessing illegal content.

Following his self-report, law enforcement officers revisited his devices and uncovered additional indecent images of minors.

During the court proceedings at Southampton Crown Court, it was revealed that Bouquet was detained last September with a total of one category B image and 59 category C images in his possession at the time of arrest.

Prosecutor Lucy Conroy detailed that the images had been downloaded from popular platforms such as Tumblr.

She stated, "An offender management officer was contacted by Bouquet, who admitted he had visited a potentially harmful website and that he should not have clicked on it.

It was decided that he should come into the police station and bring his phone for examination to determine if the site was indeed prohibited." Miss Conroy further explained, "His browsing history included searches for terms like 'teen girl,' and images consistent with such searches were found on his devices." Bouquet's initial conviction in April stemmed from the discovery of the staggering cache of 200,000 indecent images of children.

The court also noted that the offender had a history of similar warnings, having received cautions for related offences in 2001 and 2007.

During mitigation, defense counsel Guy Draper argued that Bouquet's actions were unintentional, asserting that he had 'accidentally clicked on a link' and that he took responsibility by voluntarily reporting himself to the authorities.

Draper explained, "Bouquet was viewing lawful material when the link suddenly appeared on his screen, leading him to illicit images." He also highlighted that since receiving his previous suspended sentence, Bouquet had completed 150 hours of community service and engaged positively with probation appointments.

However, Judge Jane Rowley acknowledged that Bouquet’s initial sentence might be considered lenient.

She emphasized the importance of deterring such offences, stating that her decision to imprison him sends a clear message to others involved in similar misconduct.

Ultimately, Jeffrey Bouquet, residing on Albert Road South in Southampton, pleaded guilty to possessing both category B and C indecent images of children.

As a result, he was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, aimed at restricting his future conduct and protection of potential victims.
