JASON STREET IN SOUTHAMPTON SENTENCED FOR POSSESSING OVER 11,000 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
More than 10,000 indecent images of children were discovered on a Southampton man's computer after he sent it for repair, Southampton Crown Court heard.
A technician found the images while attempting to fix the device, which belonged to Jason Street, and subsequently contacted the police.
Police retrieved a total of 11,200 images depicting young children being abused, along with a video, from the hard drive of the computer, the court was informed.
Jason Street, a father of two and a shoe repairer, admitted to downloading the images but claimed he was searching for pictures of older children in their late teens.
However, the evidence revealed that the images were of much younger children, and the video depicted graphic abuse of a severe nature.
Street pleaded guilty to one count of possessing indecent images of children and 15 counts of making indecent images of children.
Sentencing him to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, Judge Susan Evans QC described the footage as of a "disgusting nature." In addition to his prison sentence, Street was placed on the sex offenders register, instructed to complete a sexual offences treatment program, and subjected to a sexual offences prevention order.
The order prohibits him from using a computer to access indecent sites and from contacting children.
He was also banned from working with young people.
