JASON STREET FROM SOUTHAMPTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES

In September 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Jason George Street, a resident of Southampton, who was found to possess an extensive collection of indecent images depicting children being abused.

The authorities uncovered a staggering total of 7,363 images, including both still photographs and videos, which ranged from Category A, indicating the most severe form of abuse, to Category C, representing less serious material.

The investigation was initiated after police child abuse units identified an IP address associated with Street, 51 years old, living on Flamborough Close in Southampton.

This digital footprint prompted a raid on his residence, during which officers confiscated multiple electronic devices, notably a laptop and a desktop computer tower.

These devices became crucial in the subsequent examination of his online activity.

Prosecutor Keely Harvey detailed that, although thousands of additional images were recovered, the police faced significant challenges in processing and categorizing the entire collection due to the time and resources required.

The investigation revealed that Street’s internet history included searches for terms such as 'seven-year-old children,' raising further concerns about his intentions and interests.

During police interviews, Street claimed he was not responsible for downloading all the material found on his devices.

He stated that the computer in question belonged to his daughter and was kept in her room.

Despite this assertion, he later confessed to accessing the images himself, revealing that he would view them when his father was asleep and when his wife and daughter were at work, indicating a pattern of secretive and deliberate viewing.

At Southampton Crown Court, Street faced charges of making indecent images of children, with three counts brought against him.

He admitted guilt to these charges, which spanned from 2015 to 2019.

It was also disclosed that he had prior convictions from 2012 related to possessing indecent images of children, highlighting a troubling pattern of offending.

During the hearing, defense lawyer Jim Osborne explained that Street was caring for his terminally ill father at the time of the offenses, a situation that he said contributed to his client’s low self-esteem and difficulty in discussing his problems.

Osborne also noted that a probation officer described Street as someone struggling with personal issues.

Ultimately, Judge Nicholas Rowland sentenced Jason Street to 30 months in prison, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the need for justice for the victims involved.
