JAMIE MARTIN OF SOUTHPORT SENTENCED FOR ONLINE CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND EXTREME PORN IN LIVERPOOL
Warning: This story contain disturbing content.Jamie Martin, a 34-year-old from Eastbank Street, Southport, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court for possessing and sharing illegal images and extreme pornography involving a dead dog.
Court proceedings revealed that Martin had collected 129 indecent images of children over a six-year span.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of downloading such images, one count of possessing indecent images of children, one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child, and one count of possessing extreme pornography.
The extreme pornographic content depicted a person engaged in sexual acts with a dead dog and was deemed "grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character." Although Martin was not charged with distributing indecent images of children, evidence showed he was active within a network of sex offenders and had shared images online, a fact he candidly admitted during court proceedings.
Prosecutor Nardeen Nemat stated that the indecent images included 22 Category A images, the most severe, nine of which were videos; 13 Category B images with four videos; and 90 Category C images, including nine videos.
She emphasised that the Category A collection was particularly aggravating due to the inclusion of videos and the lengthy period over which Martin possessed the files, from January 14, 2014, to May 12, 2020.
Martin's case faced two adjournments as he was initially unrepresented, citing his inability to afford legal counsel.
When he finally appeared for sentencing, he was represented by Stella Hayden, who highlighted his lack of previous convictions and the potential for rehabilitation.
Judge Brian Cummings QC noted that due to the "extensive" aggravating features, the sentencing guidelines suggested a starting point of two and a half years’ imprisonment.
Thanks to his early guilty pleas, his sentence was reduced by one third to 20 months.
The judge also discussed whether Martin’s sentence could be suspended, but concluded that despite the potential for rehabilitation, the danger he posed to the public necessitated an immediate custodial sentence.
Martin was ordered to register as a sex offender and to comply with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
