Jamie John

Derby Sexual Abuser

November 2012 Jail for man, 22, as ‘revolting’ pictures of child abuse found on his computers A 22-YEAR-OLD who downloaded hundreds of “revolting” pictures of children being abused has been jailed. Jamie John had the images on computers at his own flat and his grandma’s house, where he had been staying. The images included scenes of the most serious level of indecency of child abuse as well as extreme pornographic material, which involved animals. Derby Crown Court heard that John, of Woods Lane, Derby, had had a traumatic upbringing and was very psychologically damaged. Jailing John for 15 months, Judge John Gosling said: “These were revolting pictures of children being abused. “If you had not got the problems you had I would have sent you to prison for a long time and that’s what will happen if you ever do this again.” Prosecutor Sarah Slater said in total almost 400 images were found on the computers. Pictures were also found on his mobile phone. John admitted possessing indecent images and extreme pornography. Judge Gosling said he had read a lot of different reports about John and knew of his problems. He added: “Recently, your foster parents, doctors and social workers have done everything they can to try to make your life better.” Judge Gosling said he had hoped that John would be able to receive a hospital order but had been informed by a doctor who had assessed the defendant that it was not appropriate. He was banned for life from working with children and told he must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years. He will also have to obey a sexual offences prevention order, which includes not being alone with any children under the age of 16. Other conditions of the order are that he must not have any photograph of a child without the parent’s permission and must not use any device to get on the internet unless it displays the search history. John will be released in a few weeks because of the time he has spent on remand.
