Christopher Turner

Derby Sexual Abuser

October 2009 Man sent to prison for sex assault on 15-year-old A 24-YEAR-OLD described as a “very dangerous young man” has been sent to prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. Christopher Turner was accused of encouraging teenage girls to come to his home by allowing them to drink and smoke on the premises. He had previously been convicted for groping a 15-year-old girl in a supermarket in Matlock and trying to kiss a 14-year-old in Derby’s Market Place. In May this year he assaulted another 15-year-old girl at his flat in Swinburne Street, Derby, touching her through her clothing and asking if he could perform a sex act on her. The girl he assaulted was staying in a care home at the time. He was jailed for four years and will spend another three on licence, banned from entering parks, amusement arcades, swimming pools or any other areas where children under 16 are likely to be. In an interview with the probation service Turner, who has learning difficulties, said he couldn’t form a relationship with girls over the age of 16. And a report provided by a psychiatrist said he must be regarded as a significant risk of committing further offences. The court heard that Turner’s first sexual assault occurred in 2004 at a supermarket in Matlock when he groped a girl between her legs. He was aged 19 at the time and was sentenced to 18 months’ jail for this offence. The second happened in 2006 when he kissed a 14-year-old girl on the hand in Derby before approached another girl and asking to kiss her. After this assault he was made the subject of an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, preventing him with being around girls under 16. He admitted breaching the order during the incident at his flat in May this year. Justin Ablott, in mitigation, said: “Ideally he would like a relationship with a lady his own age but because of his learning difficulties that is something which is terrifying as far as he is concerned. “As he matures the ability to form relationships will improve, in my respectful submission.” Recorder Shaun Smith said: “At the moment you are a very dangerous young man. “You have a history of committing sexual offences towards young girls. “You told the probation service you like girls between the age of 13 and 16.” He sentenced Turner to seven years. Four of those are custodial, with Turner serving half that time in prison. He will spend the remaining five years on licence. He was disqualified from working with children for life and must also sign the sex offenders’ register.
