Trevor Lacey

Derby Sexual Abuser

March 2012 Sex offender gets suspended jail term A CONVICTED sex offender has appeared in court after he failed to sign the sex offenders’ register. Trevor Lacey was found guilty by a jury of sexual assault on a 16-year-old at a bus stop in 2010 and was jailed for 10 months. Derby Crown Court heard when he was released from this sentence, he refused to sign any paperwork. Karen Davenport-Coles, prosecuting, said: “Police went to his address but couldn’t trace him, so they went to various addresses and eventually found him.” Lacey, 55, was then given 48 hours to present himself at a police station but failed to do so and was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison. He was released on December 23, 2011, and gave his address as the Ascot Hotel in Osmaston Road, Derby, but it was discovered that he was not living there and he, again, failed to register, the court heard. Lacey, of no fixed address, admitted failing to comply with a notification requirement to sign the sex offenders’ register and has now been given a 26-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. Sarah Brown, in mitigation, said Lacey still denied the original offence of sexual assault. She said Lacey had been homeless since 2010 which made it difficult to register an address with the police.
