SOUTHAMPTON SEX OFFENDER'S TABLET SEIZED AS HE IS FINED
A sex offender has been fined thousands for searching the internet anonymously on his tablet.
James Ryan, 79, of Hillside Avenue, Southampton, appeared at Southampton Crown Court on January 27 to be sentenced after admitting three breaches of his a sexual harm prevention order (SPHO).
He breached the order on December 30, 2024, in Southampton by searching using the engine DuckDuckGo, which does not retain or display internet search history, on a Lenovo tablet on December 30, 2024 and on January 15, 2024.
He also deleted Snapchat from his Lenovo tablet, something he is also prohibited from doing under the SHPO.
The order was originally made on February 2, 2017, at Oxford Magistrates' Court.
Judge Bill Mousley KC sentenced Ryan to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years.
