ALLOA SEX OFFENDER JAMES ADAM SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR ABUSE AND STREETWALKER WATCHING

In a case that has shocked the community of Alloa and the surrounding areas, James Adam, an 80-year-old man, was sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of more than two decades. The crimes, which involved the exploitation and abuse of young girls, were brought to light during a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, revealing a disturbing pattern of manipulative and predatory behavior.

James Adam's criminal activities date back to 1975, when he began grooming a vulnerable girl from the age of 10. This victim, now aged 53, recounted how Adam would take her on trips around Glasgow, where he would shower her with attention and manipulate her into performing sexual favors. She described how her early experiences with Adam involved being taken to areas known for street prostitution, where she observed women working the streets. She explained, “There was lots of women walking up and down. I now know it was a place for prostitutes,” adding, “It all started when I was 10.”

During the trial, she detailed how Adam would laugh at her, touch her inappropriately, and make comments about her body. She also revealed that she visited Adam’s former residence in Alloa at the age of 15, where she was sexually assaulted by him. The victim further disclosed that Adam worked for the railway, and she would visit the signal box where he was employed, highlighting the extent of her familiarity with his routine.

The court heard that Adam’s abuse extended beyond this initial victim. He took two other girls to watch streetwalkers in the streets of Alloa, where prostitutes ply their trade. One of these girls was later raped by Adam at a house in Alloa, in Clackmannanshire, when she was just 15 years old. Another victim, aged 12 at the time, was subjected to Adam exposing himself to her. The abuse was not confined to Alloa alone; victims were targeted across Clackmannanshire and Lanarkshire, with Adam repeatedly molesting a girl from the age of four at various addresses.

Throughout the trial, Adam maintained his innocence, denying the numerous charges against him. However, the jury found him guilty of five counts of indecency, one count of rape, and one count of indecent assault. The judge, Lord Pentland, condemned Adam’s manipulative and grooming behavior, emphasizing that he exploited his victims for his own gratification. The judge also noted with disappointment that Adam showed no remorse or empathy for his victims and appeared to have no insight into the harm he caused. Lord Pentland remarked, “Regrettably, you have evinced no remorse or empathy for your victims and appear to have no insight into the harm your abuse has caused. You must have thought you had succeeded in escaping justice for what you did.”

James Adam was brought into court in a wheelchair, a detail that underscored the gravity of his conviction. His actions have left a lasting scar on the victims, and his sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the importance of justice for those who have suffered at the hands of predators like him.
