JAKE MAUGHAN FROM MIDDLEWICH SENTENCED FOR SEX ATTACK IN CHESHIRE

Jake Maughan, a 29-year-old roofing contractor hailing from the town of Middlewich, has been handed a substantial prison sentence following a disturbing and prolonged sexual assault. The court heard that Maughan was convicted of multiple serious charges related to his assault on a woman, which took place over a span of approximately 20 minutes. During this ordeal, he repeatedly ignored her desperate pleas to cease his actions, continuing to kiss and touch her despite her protests and clear requests for him to stop.

The incident was triggered after Maughan had been engaging in messaging with the victim earlier that day. When she ceased replying to his messages, he unexpectedly appeared at her residence later that night. Once inside her home, he began to touch her leg and thigh, disregarding her protests. The situation escalated as he forcibly kissed her neck, ignoring her pleas for him to desist. Maughan also coerced the victim into touching him, telling her she 'didn't have a choice,' a statement that underscores the coercive nature of his actions.

The victim, visibly distressed and deeply affected by the experience, provided a heartfelt statement describing her emotional state following the assault. She expressed feelings of being used, feeling cheap and dirty, and questioned whether her home could ever feel safe again. Her words conveyed a profound sense of emptiness, loneliness, and embarrassment, emphasizing that the psychological scars inflicted by Maughan's actions would likely endure for a long time.

It was also revealed that Maughan was on licence at the time of the attack. He had previously served eight weeks for a drink-driving offence and 14 months for robbery, both in 2015. The judge, Michael Leeming, highlighted that Maughan's conduct represented a significant escalation in his pattern of offending. The judge expressed concern about the risk Maughan posed to the public, which led to an extension of his custodial sentence.

Maughan was convicted on six counts related to the assault, including three sexual assault charges and two counts of engaging in sexual acts without consent. All sentences for these charges are to be served concurrently. The court also noted that Maughan struggled with remorse, a difficulty partly attributed to personal hardships following the death of his father. His attitude and sense of entitlement were identified as contributing factors to his offending behavior, further underscoring the seriousness of his actions and the need for a lengthy custodial sentence.
