JACK MCRAE SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR RAPE AND KIDNAPPING IN SOUTHAMPTON

A man from Southampton has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of heinous crimes involving a woman in her own home, including rape and false imprisonment, and for assaulting another woman.

Jack McRae, aged 29, received a 14-year prison sentence from Judge Peter Henry, who publicly expressed his concern about the defendant’s dangerous nature.

McRae, residing at Golden Grove in Southampton, was found guilty of multiple serious offences committed at a residential address within the Southampton area during 2020.

These offences included repeated acts of sexual assault, forced confinement, and criminal damage.

The court also deliberated over his conviction for attacking a different woman, with whom he was involved in an unrelated incident.

During the sentencing, the victim impact statement read aloud by prosecutor Robert Brown revealed the profound psychological toll experienced by the first victim.

She explained that she had to relocate from her home due to feeling unsafe and unable to regain a sense of security after the ordeal.

The trauma inflicted on her resulted in a diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), along with severe depression.

Mr.

Brown emphasized the gravity of McRae’s actions by stating, “I am not aware of any mitigating factors that can be put forward on behalf of Mr.

McRae.

There is no evidence of remorse.” The court also considered the account of the second victim, who submitted her victim impact statement.

She disclosed that the attack left her filled with fear for her life, recounting that McRae repeatedly punched her, and she believed he intended to kill her during the assault.

Her words underscored the brutal and life-altering nature of her experience.

Judge Henry did not hold back in condemning McRae’s conduct.

He explicitly stated to the defendant, “What you did to these women has had a considerable effect upon them.

You are a highly dangerous person.” After the sentencing proceedings, McRae, who appeared in court without legal representation, was remanded to Bullingdon Prison.

The judge imposed an extended sentence of 14 years for the rape conviction, with an additional eight years on license following his release.

Simultaneously, he received a three-year sentence for false imprisonment and a two-year sentence for assaulting the second woman; all of these sentences are to run concurrently.

The prosecutor, Mr.

Brown, highlighted McRae’s extensive criminal history, which includes convictions for robbery, battery, and grievous bodily harm.

Notably, McRae had also previously attacked a prison officer, breaking his jaw in two places and causing him to lose a tooth.

The judge’s remarks and the severity of the sentences reflect the court’s recognition of the ongoing danger posed by McRae and the serious impact of his actions on his victims.
