IAN KIDD'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN NORWICH: GROOMING AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF 8-YEAR-OLD BOY LEADS TO 11-YEAR SENTENCE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Norwich community, Ian Kidd, a 50-year-old man from West Pottergate, was sentenced to 11 years in prison after being convicted of grooming and sexually abusing a young boy.The abuse took place during the 1980s, with Kidd beginning his predatory behavior when the victim was only eight years old.
Norwich Crown Court heard that the victim, who only recently found the courage to come forward, described the abuse as having a profoundly devastating impact on his life.
The court was told that the trauma inflicted by Kidd left the victim feeling as though he had lost his childhood, a sentiment that underscores the severity of the offenses.
It was revealed during the proceedings that Kidd had a prior history of sex offenses, which added to the gravity of his current conviction.
Kidd, who resides on West Pottergate in Norwich, admitted to four counts of indecent assault, acknowledging his guilt in the case.
Judge Katharine Moore, presiding over the case, emphasized the manipulative nature of Kidd’s actions, noting that he had groomed his young victim by befriending him and taking him on fishing trips.
These outings served as a means to establish trust and facilitate the abuse.
Judge Moore stated, “The effect on him has been devastating.
His whole life has been affected adversely.” She further highlighted the ongoing risk Kidd posed to children, which led to the imposition of a sexual offences prevention order.
This order prohibits Kidd from having unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16.
During the sentencing, Jude Durr, representing Kidd, acknowledged his client’s guilty plea and noted that Kidd had not re-offended since 2002.
Despite this, the court made it clear that Kidd’s actions warranted a lengthy prison term and strict supervision to protect the community from further harm.
