HAYDEN HODGSON FROM RUNCORN SENTENCED AFTER CYBER PERVERT SCANDAL INVOLVING CHILDREN AND ANIMAL ABUSE

In December 2015, a disturbing case involving a cyber pervert from Runcorn came to light, highlighting the dangers of online exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement. Hayden Hodgson, aged 19 and residing on Halton Road in Runcorn, appeared before Chester Crown Court to face serious charges related to his online activities. Hodgson had pleaded guilty to multiple counts of possessing indecent images, inciting children under the age of 13 to engage in sexual acts, and possessing extreme pornography, including indecent acts involving animals.

The investigation into Hodgson’s activities was initiated after police officers from a specialized paedophile unit identified a suspicious Twitter account under the handle '@SexyToyBoy17'. The account’s profile described its owner as a '17-year-old gay lad looking for 10-24-year-olds who want to have fun and maybe trade pics.' This profile immediately raised red flags among investigators, especially since it was linked directly to Hodgson’s email address, providing a crucial lead.

Authorities acted swiftly, arresting Hodgson on March 31. During the subsequent search of his residence, police seized three laptops. Forensic analysis of these devices uncovered a disturbing collection of illegal material, including 44 images and videos classified as Class A, which is considered the most severe category of indecent content. Additionally, there were 19 images in Class B and 87 in Class C, indicating a wide range of illicit material.

Further examination revealed that Hodgson had taken screenshots during webcam exchanges with two boys estimated to be around 10 years old. These images depicted the children engaged in sexual activities with each other, with Hodgson himself watching the exchanges. Disturbingly, investigators also found evidence that Hodgson had exploited a girl of approximately 10 years old through a similar webcam incident.

His internet search history was equally revealing of his depraved interests. Searches included phrases such as ‘man raping young boy’ and ‘under-age porn,’ which underscored the severity of his offending. The forensic analysis also uncovered folders with names like ‘18 minus hot’ and ‘12-15/13,’ further illustrating his disturbing preoccupations.

Judge Roger Dutton presided over the case and sentenced Hodgson to 16 months in a young offenders institution. However, the sentence was suspended for two years, meaning Hodgson would not serve time immediately but would be under supervision and subject to certain conditions. The judge emphasized that immediate imprisonment would not serve the purpose of preventing future offending, highlighting the importance of intervention.

Hodgson was ordered to complete a sex offenders’ treatment program, which the judge acknowledged would be challenging, embarrassing, and emotionally taxing. Additionally, he was subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, requiring all his digital devices to be kept with their internet histories accessible to police for inspection at any time.

In delivering his judgment, Judge Dutton condemned Hodgson’s actions, stating, “You have behaved in a dreadful manner. There’s a clear mistaken and naive belief that when looking at material of this kind in the privacy of your room no-one else knows what’s going on. Well, they do, and you found that out the hard way in this case. Each of these images is a victim, a victim of sexual crime who may take years, if ever, to get over the experience of being exploited.”
