DURHAM POSTMAN JAILED FOR VICIOUS WIFE MURDER

A man named Harry Turner, a postman, has been convicted of the brutal murder of his wife, Sally Turner. Initially, his conviction was overturned, but after a retrial ordered by the Court of Appeal, he was found guilty of her murder. Turner attacked Sally in June 2022, stabbing her 68 times with two knives, resulting in at least 78 wounds caused by numerous blows. The attack took place after Turner discovered that Sally was still in contact with a taxi driver she had previously been involved with. Prosecutor Craig Hassall KC stated that the discovery of a message from the taxi driver served as the likely 'trigger' for Turner to commit the murder. During the trial, the court heard that Turner, who has no fixed address, left his wedding ring beside her body and had admitted manslaughter on the grounds of loss of control, but denied murder. The judge sentenced him to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 18 years, emphasizing that the motive was jealousy over her relationship with another man. Sally was described by her daughter Ronnie Beamish as her 'rock' and her absence has caused profound devastation to the family. Sally Turner was killed on June 22, 2022, after visiting a cafe and returning to her home in Durham, where the attack occurred shortly after. The court detailed the severity of her injuries and the pursuit during the attack, illustrating the brutality of the crime.
