GRAHAM BURTON AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SUNDERLAND

A disturbing case has emerged involving Graham Burton, a known sex offender from Sunderland, who engaged in heinous online conversations with the apparent intent of abusing a young girl.

The incident came to light during a court hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, revealing a series of alarming communications that Burton had arranged to carry out acts of sexual harm.

According to court reports, Burton, who was already on licence following previous convictions related to sex offences, had orchestrated a plan to babysit a young girl.

The conversations took place over a social media application, where Burton engaged with an account that presented itself as an adult female.

It remains uncertain whether the profile was genuinely operated by the child's mother or another individual, but during these exchanges, Burton was shown pictures of a girl estimated to be between five and seven years old.

Prosecutor Emma Dowling detailed the nature of the conversations, stating, "The person presented online as an adult female.

The defendant entered into a sexual conversation with the profile.

The sexual conversation with the adult also included the suggestion he would be interested in engaging in sexual activity with her daughter.

He offered to babysit for the child.

There was discussions about him getting a taxi over to the address." Burton's discussions were graphic and disturbing, with him describing in explicit detail the activities he intended to carry out with both the mother and the child.

The court was told that Burton explicitly asked for sexual images of the young girl.

Although the photographs he received were non-sexual, they depicted a girl aged between five and seven.

Judge Tim Gittins addressed Burton directly, emphasizing the severity of his intentions: "In chats with that person you planned to engage in sexual assaults upon that young child under the pretence of babysitting.

The harm, had the act taken place, would have been substantial.

I am quite certain you present as a substantial and serious, ongoing risk to young children of causing serious harm to them." The investigation into Burton's activities was initiated when police visited his residence in May for a routine check related to his status as a sex offender.

During the visit, Burton handed over his Samsung mobile phone, which revealed that he had been involved in conversations under aliases, despite restrictions against such behavior.

Further examination uncovered that Burton had been communicating with a profile purportedly belonging to a 12-year-old girl, with whom he discussed meeting up and received both sexual and non-sexual images.

It remains unclear whether this profile was operated by an actual 12-year-old or someone else.

Additionally, Burton had engaged in brief sexual conversations with a profile of a 16-year-old girl.

Beyond the babysitting plot, the police found evidence of other disturbing online interactions, including conversations with adults about committing sex acts involving children.

Burton, aged 60 and residing on High Street East in Sunderland, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including breaching a sexual harm prevention order, attempting to communicate sexually with a child, arranging to commit a child sex offence, and possessing five Category C images of child abuse, which were also located on his phone.

The court sentenced him to four years in prison, with an additional four-year extended licence.

He was also subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and required to register as a sex offender.

Lorraine Mustard, representing Burton, acknowledged that this was his fourth conviction for similar offences and expressed hope that he might seek help.

She stated, "He would like some help.

In his own mind he would not harm a child." This case underscores the ongoing risks posed by individuals with a history of sexual offences and highlights the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in protecting vulnerable children from predatory behavior.
