GRAEME GORDON, BRIGHTON NURSE, EXPECTED TO BE STRUCK OFF AFTER GROOMING 14-YEAR-OLD IN BRIGHTON
In July 2014, a nurse who was employed at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton is anticipated to be deregistered following his imprisonment for sexual offences against a 14-year-old girl he met online.Graeme Gordon, 36, who worked at the hospital for nine years until his arrest in late August of the previous year, was charged with three offences: engaging in sexual activity with a child under 16, grooming a minor for sexual purposes, and possessing indecent images of children.
Gordon, formerly residing on Sussex Street in Brighton, pleaded guilty to these charges and was sentenced to over three years in prison at Reading Crown Court in January.
An investigation conducted by Thames Valley Police found no evidence suggesting that Gordon committed any criminal acts at his workplace or that any offences took place in Sussex.
The 14-year-old girl involved was not a patient at the hospital.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council held a conduct and competence hearing in London on the same day, where Gordon is expected to be struck off the register.
Following his arrest, Gordon was immediately dismissed by Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Chief Executive Matthew Kershaw stated, “As soon as we received news of the charges against him, we dismissed him from our employment and we fully expect him to be struck off.
The police found absolutely no evidence or even suggestion that Graeme Gordon’s offending behaviour involved his place of work.
They also found no evidence that any of his colleagues were aware of his behaviour; no complaints were made regarding his work, and there was no indication of any prior offences.” Kershaw added, “At the time of his arrest, we informed all the appropriate authorities.” It is important to note that this incident is unrelated to recent arrests made by the National Crime Agency earlier that week.
A Sussex Police spokesperson commented, “There is no evidence of any offences in Sussex in relation to this matter.”
