GEORGE TAYLOR'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN MARGATE AND THANET LEAD TO EXTENDED JAIL SENTENCE
In a case that has left a lasting scar on the community of Margate and the wider Thanet area, pensioner George Taylor has been sentenced to an extended prison term after being convicted of heinous sexual offenses committed decades ago. The disturbing revelations emerged during a hearing at Canterbury Crown Court, where it was disclosed that Taylor, now 73 years old, had inflicted severe trauma on two young victims in the early 1970s.According to court reports, Taylor’s crimes spanned from 1973 onwards, and he had previously served an eight-year sentence for a total of 34 sex offenses. Despite his prior incarceration, he was released early, only to commit further acts of abuse that would haunt the victims for the rest of their lives. The court heard how Taylor’s actions left one female victim still battling nightmares, flashbacks, and emotional scars that continue to affect her daily life.
During the proceedings, Judge Adele Williams addressed Taylor directly, emphasizing the gravity of his offenses. She recounted how the male victim, in a heartfelt Victim Impact Statement, described Taylor’s assaults as a form of torture. The judge stated, “You abused your victims when they were children. You told one of them that if she told anyone what you had done then she would end up in care. I have read the impact statements which make very moving reading indeed. There can be no doubt, what traumatic effect what you did had on each of them. You stole their innocence and robbed them of part of their childhood.”
As the judge detailed the extent of Taylor’s crimes, he became visibly agitated. When she revealed that Taylor had been jailed in 2011 for the rape of a five-year-old, he shouted “No...” from the dock. His protests grew louder, and he refused to cease shouting, prompting the court to order his removal. The judge then sentenced him in his absence, with Taylor shouting as he was led away, “Give me life. That’s all lies. It’s total rubbish; lies, lies...”
Prosecutor Christopher May provided further details, explaining that Taylor had used pornography to seduce one of the children and had attempted to bribe the boy with gifts. He also revealed that Taylor had committed additional assaults on the girl while residing in Margate, claiming he was “teaching her about her body.” The girl, now an adult, has spoken about how these experiences have left her with low self-esteem and ongoing psychological trauma, including nightmares and flashbacks.
It was confirmed that Taylor, who is currently serving an extended sentence, admitted to five sex offenses involving the children. The court sentenced him to an initial eight-year term, with an additional two years to be served on licence upon his release, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the lasting impact on his victims.
