STEVE BAKER FROM MARGATE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN KENT
In a case that has shocked the local community of Margate and the surrounding areas, Steven Baker, aged 33, was convicted of a serious sexual assault involving a minor.The incident took place in June 2013, during a house party at a residence in Margate, where Baker, without warning or consent, entered the bedroom of a 14-year-old girl while she was sleeping.
According to court records, Baker then proceeded to get into her bed and carried out a sexual assault that lasted for several hours.
The young victim, overwhelmed by fear and unable to resist, chose to lie still and pretend to be asleep in hopes that Baker would leave her alone.
It was only the following day that she confided in her family about the traumatic experience, prompting immediate action.
Following her report, Kent Police swiftly arrested Steven Baker.
During questioning, Baker admitted to being intoxicated at the time of the assault but claimed he had no memory of the events, which raised questions about his account.
Despite his claims of intoxication, the evidence presented in court was sufficient to secure a conviction.
On February 2nd at Canterbury Crown Court, Baker pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual activity with a child.
The court sentenced him to 18 months in prison and ordered that he be registered as a sex offender for the next ten years.
The judge emphasized the severity of the crime and the importance of protecting minors from such predatory behavior.
Detective Constable Neil Martin, who led the investigation, expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
He stated, “I am pleased with the result and it shows that due to the victim’s bravery in coming forward and reporting this incident, we have had a successful prosecution of a predatory offender that seemed to show little remorse for what he had done.” This case highlights the importance of vigilance and the courage of victims in coming forward to ensure justice is served, especially in cases involving vulnerable minors.
