GEORGE NADEN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN WASHINGTON AND GATESHEAD

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, George Naden, a pensioner residing in Washington, was convicted and sentenced for the sexual assault of a young girl. The incident involved Naden molesting the primary school-aged victim on approximately 50 separate occasions, a revelation that has left residents and authorities alike deeply concerned about the safety of children in the area.

According to court proceedings, Naden, aged 71 at the time, engaged in a pattern of inappropriate behavior that included buying magazines and toys for the young girl, which appeared to be part of his grooming process. The court heard that the girl’s mother began to notice a change in her daughter’s demeanor over time, which prompted her to investigate further.

Eventually, the girl confided in her mother, revealing that Naden had subjected her to abuse. She expressed her discomfort and stated that she did not like what the defendant was doing to her. This disclosure led her mother to contact the police, resulting in Naden’s arrest. During police interviews, Naden initially claimed that his actions were innocent, asserting that he had only tickled the girl and that any touching of her genitals was accidental. However, he later admitted to committing sexual assault.

At Newcastle Crown Court, Naden pleaded guilty to four charges of sexual assault involving a child under the age of 13. The court heard that his actions had caused significant distress to the young girl and her family. The prosecution was led by Anne Richardson, who detailed the extent of the abuse and its impact.

Defense lawyer Glen Gatland highlighted that Naden’s two sons had completely disowned him following the revelations of his misconduct. Gatland emphasized that Naden had previously led an otherwise exemplary life and had ample time to reflect on his actions. He acknowledged the seriousness of the offense and the harm caused to the victim and her mother.

In sentencing, Judge Paul Sloan QC ordered that Naden serve 15 months in prison for each of the four charges, with all sentences to run concurrently. Additionally, Naden was disqualified from working with children and vulnerable adults and was placed under a sexual prevention order to prevent any future offenses.

Judge Sloan addressed Naden directly, stating, “You sexually abused her. You were suggesting that it was accidental. You also told her not to say anything as she would get it wrong. This is a serious case of offending.” The case underscores the importance of vigilance and safeguarding measures to protect children from predators within the community.
