SOUTHAMPTON MAN GUILTY OF WIFE MURDER IN CHILLING CASE
At Southampton's court, 48-year-old George Kibuuka was found guilty of killing his wife Margaret in 2009 at their home on Richville Road, Shirley. The defendant admitted to the murder but argued that he was suffering from an 'abnormality of mind' caused by his early childhood experiences in Uganda.
Justice Royce imposed a life sentence with a minimum term of 16 years.
The court characterized the murder as both premeditated and calculated, noting that Kibuuka had previously filed for divorce, citing issues of domestic violence and infidelity.
Evidence presented during the trial showed that Kibuuka had also exhibited violence towards Margaret and was accused of having sexual relationships with her sisters, which provoked his anger.
He was also convicted of drugging his children to hide them from witnessing the attack and other related offenses.
The court paid tribute to Margaret as a 'wonderful mother' and an 'exceptional wife,' emphasizing that she was senselessly and violently taken from her family amid disputes over the divorce and accusations of infidelity.
