SOUTHAMPTON MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING PARTNER AND THREATENING TO SLIT HER THROAT
A man from Southampton convicted of controlling and violent conduct toward his partner has been sentenced to imprisonment.
George Ashley, aged 36, was found guilty of dragging his frightened partner into his vehicle and threatening to cut her throat.
The incident on May 12 involved physical assaults such as punching, dragging, and making threats, which caused visible injuries including bruises and marks on her neck.
Southampton Crown Court was informed that Ashley was observed hitting her on the street, prompting her to seek refuge in a stranger’s car.
However, he pulled her back into her own vehicle and drove away.
She later escaped during a petrol stop, but upon reaching home, Ashley was waiting and forcefully pulled her inside, tearing her clothing in the process.
He then detained them both inside and warned her against trying to leave, saying he would slit her throat.
Authorities arrested him shortly after.
The court was told that Ashley had been possessive and controlling throughout their relationship, with episodes of violence and abuse becoming frequent.
Judge Brian Forster KC described Ashley’s conduct as instilling terror in his partner and sentenced him to 15 months in custody, along with a three-year restraining order and six penalty points on his driving license.
Ashley submitted a letter of remorse, expressing regret and acknowledging a need for help.
This case underscores the serious consequences of domestic violence and coercive behavior criminalized by law.
