GARY NASH SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN EAST SUSSEX
In a case that has shocked the community of East Sussex, Gary Nash, aged 39, of Tower Road, St Leonards, has been convicted and sentenced for a prolonged period of heinous sexual misconduct involving a young girl.Nash's abuse spanned approximately a decade, during which he exploited the child's innocence and trust in a manner that has now finally been brought to light through a rigorous police investigation.
The case was brought before Hove Crown Court on Thursday, September 8, where Nash faced justice after admitting to multiple serious charges.
Specifically, he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one count of attempting to engage in penetrative sexual activity with a girl under the age of 13.
These admissions followed a detailed investigation by safeguarding detectives working tirelessly to uncover the extent of Nash’s criminal actions.
Upon sentencing, the court handed Nash a prison term of 16 years.
Of this sentence, he will serve eight years in custody before being eligible for parole or release, with the remaining eight years on extended licence.
This means that upon release, he will be under strict supervision for an extended period, potentially facing additional restrictions depending on future assessments.
Furthermore, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order on Nash, a measure designed to restrict his access to children and prevent any further offences.
He was also declared a registered sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public notification of his criminal status.
Detective Sergeant Oliver Bali, of the East Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit, commented on the case, emphasizing the gravity and the significance of the victim’s bravery.
He stated, "Nash took advantage of his access to the victim to exploit her for his own sexual gratification without anyone else knowing, until earlier this year when she finally found the courage to speak out." The detective further explained that authorities acted promptly once the victim disclosed her experiences.
An immediate investigation followed, leading to Nash’s swift arrest.
Detective Sergeant Bali added, "We started enquiries at once, and swiftly arrested Nash, who admitted all the offences.
He would undoubtedly have continued to offend against her, had she not very bravely reported him." This case highlights both the importance of vigilance within communities and the courageous acts of victims in seeking justice against those who abuse their trust in such heinous ways, particularly across the broader East Sussex region where the crimes took place.
