GARY BOWDEN AND SHOCKING CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES IN SOUTHAMPTON

A man named Gary Bowden from Southampton has been found guilty of possessing a vast collection of indecent images of young children, including videos of abuse targeting victims as young as three years old.

The incident came to light when police executed a raid at Bowden’s residence, uncovering multiple electronic devices containing disturbing material that detailed his involvement in possessing and viewing such explicit content.

Bowden, aged 32, was found to have failed to disclose a new mobile phone during the police search, despite being under a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) that had been issued against him following a previous conviction.

The authorities discovered a total of 8,465 indecent images across his devices.

Among these were 1,926 images classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse or exploitation.

These images depicted extremely disturbing scenes involving children as young as three years old being subjected to sexual abuse.

Leigh Hart, the prosecutor handling the case, outlined the shocking nature of the evidence, emphasizing the nature of the images found on Bowden's devices and the extent of his offending.

During the police interview following his arrest, Bowden did not offer any comments, remaining silent on the matter.

Subsequently, he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children, and to breaching the terms of his sexual harm prevention order by owning a mobile phone not previously declared.

The defendant, who resides at Mescott Meadows in Hedge End, has a criminal history comprising four previous convictions related to 24 offences, including making and distributing indecent images.

His case was brought before Southampton Crown Court, where he appeared for sentencing on a Friday.

During the hearing, Keely Harvey, representing Bowden, argued that her client had been transparent and earnest about his guilt, noting that he had expressed remorse early in the process.

She stated that Bowden had anticipated the police finding such images and suggested that he was in need of psychological help.

The presiding judge, Mr.

Justice Brian Forster KC, addressed the severity of the case, particularly citing the large number of Category A images involved.

He highlighted that Bowden’s previous convictions and the deliberate violation of the SHPO underscored the seriousness of his actions.

The judge also pointed out that Bowden was fully aware of the restrictions placed on him but chose to breach the order intentionally.

As a result of his guilty pleas and the evidence presented, Bowden was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment.

Additionally, he was placed under an indefinite sexual harm prevention order requiring him to adhere to strict notification duties for the next decade.

The court also ordered the confiscation and destruction of his phones and electronic devices to prevent further access to illegal images.

In closing the sentencing remarks, Judge Forster expressed hope that Bowden could receive the necessary help and make positive changes for his future, despite the grave nature of his crimes.
