GARETH DAVIES FROM NEWPORT ADMITS TO CHILD AND ANIMAL SEX ABUSE IMAGES
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Newport community, Gareth Davies, a 40-year-old resident of Somerton Road, has pleaded guilty to possessing explicit images involving both children and animals. The charges against Davies include three counts of possessing indecent images of a child, alongside a separate count related to the possession of an extreme pornographic image that involved an animal.
These offences were committed over a span of nearly four years, beginning in April 2017 and continuing until March 2021, as revealed during the proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court.
The lengthy period of offending underscores a troubling pattern of behaviour that has now come to light.
During the court session, Judge Daniel Williams was informed that the case would be adjourned until May 19 to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
The judge issued a stark warning to Davies, indicating that he could potentially face imprisonment as a consequence of his actions.
Despite the seriousness of the charges, Davies was granted conditional bail, allowing him to remain free pending sentencing.
As part of the legal process, Davies was instructed to register as a sex offender at a police station within 72 hours of his court appearance.
This requirement is standard procedure in cases involving sexual offences and aims to monitor and manage the offender’s conduct moving forward.
Throughout the proceedings, Davies was represented by legal counsel Ben Waters, while the prosecution was led by Joshua Scouller.
The case continues to develop as the court prepares for the sentencing phase, which will determine the severity of the punishment that Davies will face for his disturbing crimes.
