FRANK SALMON AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCE IN SOUTHAMPTON
A convicted paedophile, Frank Salmon, has been sentenced to prison after falling into a police trap in Southampton.The 54-year-old, residing at Harbourne Gardens in the West End of Southampton, was deceived into believing he was going to meet a 14-year-old boy for a sexual encounter.
In reality, he was met by officers from Hampshire Constabulary and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (Serocu), who arrested him before any harm could occur.
Salmon’s arrest took place on June 23 this year in Shirley, Southampton.
He had anticipated meeting the young teenager for what he believed would be a sexual act.
However, law enforcement officials had set up an operation to catch him in the act, and when he arrived at the designated meeting point, police officers confronted and detained him.
The entire incident underscores the diligent efforts of the police units involved in preventing child exploitation and apprehending individuals intent on committing such offences.
According to Detective Constable Colin Haynes, who works with Serocu, no children were ever physically in danger during this investigation.
He emphasized that Salmon’s intentions were clear—he intended to meet a minor for sexual abuse.
Haynes expressed relief that law enforcement intervened in time, preventing any potential victim from being harmed.
He also noted the importance of such cases in demonstrating the commitment of police forces to safeguarding children and bringing offenders to justice.
As a result of his guilty plea, Salmon received a prison sentence of two years and four months.
In addition to his incarceration, he was subjected to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts his behaviour and contact to prevent further offending.
Salmon is also required to remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses.
