FERHAM KHAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR RAPE IN SOUTHAMPTON AND WINCHESTER
A man named Ferham Khan, aged 29, from Derby Road in Southampton, has been officially convicted and sentenced to a lengthy period of imprisonment after being found guilty of a serious sexual assault that occurred in September 2017.The sentencing took place at Southampton Crown Court, where the court heard the detailed circumstances surrounding the incident that led to his conviction.
The case originated from an incident involving a female victim who had been out in Southampton enjoying an evening with her friends.
As the night drew to a close, she decided to call for a taxi to return home safely.
The journey began at approximately 1am on Saturday, September 30, 2017, when Khan picked her up from Broadway in Winchester.
What was intended to be a routine ride soon took a sinister turn.
During the transit, Khan believed that the woman had fallen asleep in his taxi.
Exploiting this perceived vulnerability, he stopped the vehicle at an undisclosed location and committed an appalling sexual assault against her.
The assault included both rape and oral sex.
The victim, overwhelmed with fear, remained frozen and did not resist or fight back.
Her state was so distressing that, when Khan thought she had lost consciousness due to intoxication, he inexplicably called the police to report that he had an unconscious woman in his car and requested her removal.
Rescue teams, including police officers and paramedics, swiftly responded to the scene.
It was only then that the woman was able to finally disclose the details of her trauma.
Khan was immediately arrested at the scene, and his taxi was seized for forensic analysis to gather evidence related to the assault.
During police interrogation, Khan initially attempted to deny any wrongdoing, claiming that the whole incident was an accident and that the woman had fallen onto him while he had his trousers unbuttoned.
This explanation was later dismissed when he confessed that his earlier statement was false.
Khan revealed that he was concerned his wife would discover his infidelity and the sexual encounter with the victim.
Furthermore, he claimed that the encounter was consensual, alleging that the woman had initiated the sexual touching herself and even suggested that she did so in an attempt to reduce the fare.
The jury deliberated and reached a unanimous verdict, finding Khan guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The judge then sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment for his heinous acts.
The incident left a profound impact on the victim, who later spoke out about her suffering.
She explained that she went out like many young women, seeking a safe way to get home.
She described her experience in the taxi as utterly devastating, stating, “That man shattered my world into tiny pieces.
The pain and suffering I have endured because of what he did to me has left me broken.
I don't know who I am anymore.
This man had stripped me of my identity.
At the moment, I am simply surviving, taking each day as it comes and praying that one day I will feel like myself again and begin to live.” Police Staff Investigator Joanne Parr-Daniels commended the victim’s bravery, emphasizing the courage required for her to support a lengthy and complex investigation.
She remarked, “The bravery and strength we have seen in this woman is commendable.
Khan turned her life upside down that night 17 months ago.
We are so impressed with her courage.
No matter how traumatic this has been, she supported us throughout the process, enabling us to bring Khan to justice.
I hope this sentence will allow her to finally move forward and heal.”
