MAN IN JEALOUS RAGE SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ESSEX MURDER
Ertan Ersoy, aged 51, has been convicted of and sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison for the severe killing of his wife, Dr.Antonella Castelvedere.
The court heard that he carried out multiple stab wounds, inflicting injuries at 15 different points on her face, neck, upper chest, and hands, in what was described as an act driven by a 'jealous rage.' Prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC revealed that Ersoy suspected his wife of unfaithfulness and had previously installed a listening device in their residence in Colchester, Essex.
Judge Christopher Morgan commented that the defendant attacked his wife because he could not tolerate her independence, both within their marriage and in her professional pursuits.
The court found Ersoy guilty of her murder after a trial; he had initially admitted to manslaughter but argued that he was suffering from an abnormal mental state, a claim the jury rejected.
During the sentencing, Ersoy reacted with anger, gesturing wildly and throwing his hearing loop, then sat back as the minimum sentence was announced.
Dr.
Castelvedere’s family expressed their appreciation for the respect shown during the proceedings and acknowledged the brutality of the attack that resulted in her death.
