EDMUND WARBRICK SHOCKS SOUTHAMPTON WITH CHILD AND ANIMAL PORN SCANDAL
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Southampton community, long-serving music teacher Edmund Warbrick has narrowly escaped a prison sentence after being found in possession of highly disturbing images involving children and animals.Warbrick, who dedicated over two decades of his life to educating children at Sholing Technology College, was dismissed from his position following the discovery of these illicit materials on his personal laptop.
According to court reports, police were alerted to the situation after staff members at Sholing Technology College, where Warbrick had been employed since 1994, lodged multiple complaints about his conduct in July of the previous year.
The school’s administration responded by suspending him pending an investigation.
The investigation culminated in police officers executing a search warrant at Warbrick’s residence on Middle Road, Sholing.
During the search, law enforcement officials seized Warbrick’s computer and uncovered a disturbing collection of images.
Among these were 18 photographs depicting children as young as nine years old, with four classified in the most severe category of abuse.
Additionally, police found evidence of searches for pornography involving children approximately 13 years of age, as well as explicit animal pornography.
These findings led to Warbrick being formally charged with 18 counts of possessing indecent images of children and two counts of possessing extreme pornography involving animals.
At a court hearing, Warbrick, aged 48, pleaded guilty to all charges.
His defense attorney, Katherine Stock, described him as a man of previously good character who had come across the illicit images on one or two occasions over the past two and a half years, often while under the influence of alcohol.
She emphasized his remorse and shame, stating, “Mr.
Warbrick is very much ashamed to be in front of court today and is remorseful about accessing these images.” During the proceedings, it was revealed that Warbrick’s actions had serious implications.
The court was informed that he had been suspended from his teaching duties and subsequently dismissed from his role at the school.
His personal circumstances were also under strain, with the possibility of losing his home and contemplating a move back to his hometown of Blackpool to be closer to family.
Judge Peter Henry delivered the sentence, which included a six-month prison term, suspended for two years.
The judge expressed concern over the potential harm caused to victims, stating, “These children will have been exploited to a greater or lesser extent.
They will have been encouraged, or possibly worse, to get involved in this type of sexual activity and there is no doubt that as they grow into adults these children will have been damaged.” Furthermore, Warbrick has been placed on the sex offenders register and is subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him from working with children or contacting individuals under 16 via the internet.
Martin Brown, headteacher at The Sholing Technology College, confirmed the incident, stating, “We are aware that a former member of staff, employed by The Sholing Technology College from 1 September 1994 until 15 December 2014 – pleaded guilty to 18 counts of possession of child abuse images and has been sentenced in Southampton Crown Court.”
