July 2022 Paedophile sent ’14-year-old girl’ naked picture and told her ‘I want sex’ A pervert sent a ’14-year-old girl’ a naked picture and repeatedly told her “I want sex”. Derek Broadfoot, from Anfield, sent the teen a string of lewd messages over Facebook over the space of more than a week. But, unbeknown to him, the 29-year-old was actually being ensnared in a paedophile hunter sting. Liverpool Crown Court heard that he first contacted the decoy account – which displayed a profile picture of a “young teenage girl” – at around 4am on April 14 last year. Broadfoot, of Belmont Drive, was informed at the outset of her supposed age. But the pair exchanged messages over the course of the following nine days. He asked the schoolgirl “will you be my girlfriend” and told her she was “sexy” on several occasions. Broadfoot sent the teenager a photograph of his penis. When the idea of meeting up to go shopping was floated, he asked: “What’s in it for me?” The paedophile talked about “kissing and cuddling” and “getting naked if she wanted to”, as well as sending the message “I want sex” numerous times. Another member of the paedophile hunter group then made arrangements to meet up with him for sex at Princes Park Health Centre on April 29 2021. Police were called to the scene, and Broadfoot was arrested. But he claimed to officers that his social media account had been hacked. Broadfoot, who has two previous convictions for assault and battery in 2013, admitted attempting sexual communications with a child. He was handed an eight-month imprisonment suspended for 18 months. Sentencing, Judge David Potter said: “The offence to which you have pleaded guilty is a serious crime and only a prison sentence is appropriate, but I’m not going to send you immediately into prison today. You can go home today. Broadfoot was also handed a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 35 days and told to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work. He must sign the sex offenders’ register for the next 10 years, and was given a sexual harm prevention order lasting the same period.
